I had a lot of fun on Twitter last night after discovering that Labour MP David Wright (also a Labour Whip) made the naive mistake of posting on Twitter the following message:
“#ivenevervotedtory because you can put lipstick on a scum-sucking pig, but it’s still a scum-sucking pig. And cos they would ruin Britain”
He then continued to mock the upset Tories but eventually apologised. That would probably have been the end of it, however once the media started contacting him about an hour later he came up with the most ridiculous excuse that ‘my tweets have been tampered with’, claiming that he never wrote the words ‘scum-sucking’ and that someone else must have!
While plausible that his account was hacked, even someone with his username and password could not EDIT a tweet … that functionality simply does not exist. So not only is David Wright offensive to around 40% of Britains, but he also lies at the first sign of trouble. More amusing was that one of Labour’s most devoted spin-doctors, Kevin Maguire (Daily Mirror editor), immediately tried to come to David Wright’s aid by repeating the ridiculous lie!
Iain Dale cleverly decided to take the opportunity to raise money for David Wright’s Tory opponent in Telford and quickly raised over £600 as a result of the scandal that is still causing a fuss on Twitter today.
Happily the Tories are not going to let this one go and are continuing to put pressure on David Wright.
If politicians are going to use social media to help their campaigns, perhaps they should be put through some form of training / coaching!
