I don’t think anyone could have predicted that Android’s exponential growth continue. Most assumed it had to start slowing down.
Back in October, Eric Schmidt said that 200,000 Google Android devices were being activated per day. We’re one week into December and that figure is already 300,000 per day, according to Andy Rubin (the man in charge of Android). That is 9 million per month! Android has blown past iOS (even if you count iPods and iPads) in dramatic fashion.
It seems likely that a single smartphone manufacturer using Android may well pass Apple next year if the growth continues. Chances are that would be Samsung or HTC.
I also read recently that 50% of smartphones shipped in China have Android installed. That is an extraordinary statistic if true. If Google get over 50% of the global smartphone market they will surely be an unstoppable force in mobile advertising.
