Some up-to-date Android statistics announced by Eric Schmidt at Mobile World Congress yesterday:
- 350,000 smartphone & tablet activations per day
- 170 unique devices running Android
- 27 OEMs (but not Nokia!)
- 169 mobile carriers
- 69 countries
- 150,000 Android applications
The momentum behind Android continues to build. It would appear that only Apple could stop this train now … perhaps with an iPhone Nano? It may already be too late!
Benchmark Capital’s Bill Gurley made a very nice analysis of Google’s strategy with Android: It’s like protecting a castle by charring all surrounding earth in a 250 mile radius, making it impossible for anybody to come near it.
I tend to agree!
