I wanted to get a real comparison of where the current fastest smartphones are in terms of performance vs PCs I have available to test. Will update as I receive new figures from friends and/or new phones to test!
I found two javascript benchmarks, one called ‘SunSpider‘ from WebKit.org … the other ‘v8‘ from Google.

Some interesting conclusions from the above:
- Javascript performance is about the software as much as the hardware – hence standard HTC Sensation being slower than a Nexus One in both tests! HTC Sense is probably to blame … Opera Browser far better! Also iPhone 3GS better than iPhone 4 running an older version of iOS!
- The Sony Vaio’s processor has roughly 3 times the performance of the Dell XPS Gen 4, but only ~double the performance in the benchmarks (is Vista to blame?)
Got some different hardware? Please submit your benchmark figures in the comments!
